Moses Musyoka Muthui is the new Head of Strategy and Business Management at Barclays Kenya, joining the Kenyan branch from the Barclays Capital, in the United States, where he served as a Wall Street investment banker. In this newly created role, Mr Muthui will help build and coordinate a holistic business strategy working with the business and unit heads, who continue to own and drive execution of their respective strategies. The fact that he is not new to the Kenyan branch as it is where he started his rise in the corporate ladder 10 years ago; he is expected to move the bank many steps up as he is now back with much experience in the banking sector. He is both a qualified accountant with ACCA and a licensed investment banker, a background that will sure enable him manage the newly created strategic unit. Apart from this, he holds a Master’s Degree in Finance from the London School of Economics, an MBA from the University of Nairobi and a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and Mathematics from Egerton University. Before joining the Barclays capital in New York as one of the youngest associate directors, he also held a position at the parent company in London. However, it all began in Kenya where he started off as an administrations clerk in the company rising up to the role of chief of staff for the chief executive officer, due to his hard work, in just three years. As the parent company moves to separate from its African subsidiaries, Barclays Kenya included, Mr Muthui will have a tough time ahead as he looks to ensure the bank has its own strategy once the separation goes through in order to keep its current popularity in the market.
